Marek grew up two blocks off Kedzie and Montrose and started on a roofing crew out of Albany Park the summer after high school. He learned the Chicago bungalow from the inside: the hip roof, the dormer, the parapet on the flat two-flat next door, and the chimney that always needs new flashing. Twenty years on, the shop is still on the Northwest Side and the truck is usually within fifteen minutes of your house.

What we do on a Northwest Side roof.

Most of the houses between Pulaski and Harlem are brick bungalows, Georgians and two-flats from the 1920s. The list below is the work those roofs actually need, and we do all of it with our own crew.

  • Bungalow roof replacement Tear-off to the deck, ice and water shield at the eaves, Owens Corning Duration or GAF Timberline HDZ. One day for most hip roofs.
  • Roof repair Lifted shingles, cracked pipe boots, a dormer that drips in a west wind. Repaired the same week we see it, with a matching shingle.
  • Flat roofs on two-flats and garages Modified bitumen on garages, TPO on two-flat and three-flat roofs, new scuppers and drains where the old ones rusted through.
  • Chimney flashing and crickets Step and counter flashing cut into the mortar joint, plus a cricket behind any chimney wider than 30 inches.
  • Gutters and downspouts 5-inch and 6-inch seamless aluminum, hung on the same ticket as the roof or on their own.
  • Storm repair After hail or wind we tarp the open spots first, photograph every slope, and put the repair in writing. Nobody goes up without your permission.

Do you need to get on my roof to give me a price?
Yes, and only with your permission. Marek asks before he sets the ladder, takes photos of every slope, and shows them to you before he leaves. If you would rather he stayed on the ground, he can measure from the ground and the photos, and the estimate will say so.
How long does a bungalow roof take?
One day for a hip roof with one layer of shingles and one dormer. Two layers, a steep front gable, or a flat section over a rear addition can push it to two. We tell you which before we start, and the roof is never left open overnight.
Can you do the flat roof on my two-flat?
Yes. Most two-flats and three-flats between Kedzie and Cicero have a low-slope roof behind the parapet. We install TPO on those, with new scuppers and a drain if the old ones are rusted through, and modified bitumen on detached garages.
What happens after a storm?
Call us. If water is coming in, a crew comes out the same day or the next morning to tarp the open spots. We photograph the damage, write up the repair, and give you the photos and the estimate to use however you need to. We do not go on the roof until you say so.
